Booking a musician sight unseen, often from another country, is a different process from hiring most other wedding vendors. A few questions up front save a lot of uncertainty later.
Can they play the specific songs you want, not just a genre? A repertoire list tells you what a musician already performs regularly, but your first dance or processional song might not be on it. Ask directly whether a custom arrangement is possible and how much notice it needs — a good musician will tell you honestly if a piece doesn't suit the instrument rather than promising anything.
Do they have experience with outdoor Mallorca venues specifically? Coastal weather, wind, and direct sun affect a stringed instrument in ways a hotel ballroom never will. Ask what backup plan they use for weather and how they protect the instrument outdoors.
What's actually included in the quote? Travel, amplification, and the number of sets or hours should be clear before you sign anything, not discovered afterward. Mallorca weddings often draw musicians from elsewhere on the island or from mainland Spain, so travel terms are worth confirming explicitly.
How does booking and cancellation actually work? A signed agreement and a retainer to hold the date is standard practice; ask what the cancellation policy looks like well before you need it, not after.
Can they send a reference recording? Photos of past events are common, but a short video or audio clip tells you far more about tone and stage presence than any written description can.
